Under the overall direction of the Operations Manager, plans and coordinates with the Tooling Supervisor work performed by shop and technical personnel in meeting customer job requirements. Performs engineering duties required to analyze new and existing customer products and designs or changes to molds to meet the design, function, style, and other engineering factors needed by customers to produce product in their facility. Utilizes computer aided software and techniques to program our EDM sinkers, wire machines and especially our 3 and 5 axis vertical machining centers. This includes physically setting up and machining to produce molds or repair same. Maintain a record system of programs, prints and files of critical requirements related to customer product designs and manufacturing process to document compliance in meeting their stated specifications. Works closely with the Operations Manager to analyze projects to maintain manufacturing efficiency and the use of materials effectively to optimize the company’s competitive position.


  • 70% Using Gibbs, SolidWorks, and EDM Esprit software program on a computer the code to download to our machines their operational tool path programs.
  • Utilizes computer aided software and modeling techniques to design molds or tools.
    -  Responsible for customer contacts and investigations of needed criterion to obtain approval of our less complex mold designs. This may include travel to customer facilities. Prepare detailed prints, pertinent, design data, and manufacturing instructions for shop personnel. Responsible for defining outside materials or vendors needed to complete a mold project:
    1. 10% Oversee tool makers to insure they follow prints/instructions and are able to meet established production rates, maintain quality, and customer specifications. Oversee the machining, finishing, and shipment of customized molds and/or mold components. Help train and instruct employees on difficult assignments or operations.
    2. 10% Using standard cost rates is responsible for less complex customer quotations. This includes a detail estimate of specialized jobs and overseeing the work of others.
    3. 10% Studies our operations, equipment, and materials recommending new methods/materials and or equipment for increased efficiency. Has responsible for following industry innovations and installing appropriate improvements.

This job requires actual machine programming experience using computer software products to download tool paths to various shop machines. This job also requires knowledge of different manufacturing procedures and methods,plus an understanding of company capabilities, outside vendor applications, and work place practices.

These requirements may be acquired in four years shop related high school or vocational education to give clear instructions to others, plus five years industrial job experience to become familiar with equipment, mold production methods, procedures and to maintain the respect of the mold makers.
